Water pump
Mobile Water Pump Replacement in Utah
The water pump circulates coolant through the engine. A failing one can leak coolant, whine, or let the engine overheat. Water pump replacement is done at your home or workplace, on all makes and models. If the car is overheating, stop driving first, since a hot engine can be ruined quickly.
- All makes and models
- $125 diagnostic, credited if you go ahead with the repair
- Nephi to Ogden, including Eagle Mountain and Heber
What water pump replacement involves
The cooling system is drained, the old pump is removed and a new one installed, and the system is refilled and bled of air. On some engines the timing belt drives the water pump, so the belt is part of the job, and replacing both at once can make sense.
Signs of a failing water pump
- A coolant leak at the front of the engine. A drip or crusted coolant near the pump.
- A whining or grinding noise. The pump bearing wears out.
- The temperature gauge climbing. A pump that no longer moves coolant lets the engine overheat.
- Steam, or a sweet smell. Coolant is escaping onto a hot engine.
Overheating is not always the pump
A thermostat, a radiator, a cooling fan, a hose or a leak elsewhere can also cause overheating, so a car that overheats does not always need a new water pump.
What it costs
What a water pump replacement costs depends on the vehicle and on how much has to come off to reach the pump, so no single price is listed.

Questions
Questions about water pump replacement
Can a mobile mechanic replace a water pump at my house?
Yes. Water pump replacement can be done at your home or workplace. How much has to come off to reach it varies by vehicle, so give the year, make and model and what the car is doing when you call or text.
How do I know if my water pump is failing?
A coolant leak at the front of the engine, a whining or grinding noise, steam, or a temperature gauge that keeps climbing can all point to the pump. A thermostat or radiator problem can look similar.
Is it safe to drive with a bad water pump?
No. If the pump is not moving coolant, the engine can overheat quickly and be ruined. If the temperature gauge climbs, pull over, turn the engine off and let it cool, and do not keep driving.
Should the timing belt be replaced with the water pump?
On engines where the timing belt drives the water pump, the two jobs overlap, so replacing the belt at the same time can make sense. Not every engine works this way, so the year, make and model matter.
