A swap is not a rebuild

A swap takes out the engine or transmission and installs another unit in its place. A rebuild takes the original apart and repairs it. The two are different jobs.

Swaps are done. Rebuilds of either unit are not.

What a swap depends on

  • The vehicle. The make, model and year decide how the unit comes out and goes in.
  • The replacement unit. A different engine or transmission may need different mounts, connectors or parts moved over from the old one.
  • The condition of everything around it. Hoses, belts, seals and mounts near the unit are easy to reach during a swap, which is a good time to look at them.
  • The space. A swap needs room around the car and a safe, level place to work.

Where a swap can be done

Whether a swap can be done at your home or workplace depends on the vehicle, the unit and the space. Say where the car is parked and which unit is going in when you call or text.

What a swap costs

A swap is priced to the job: the vehicle, the replacement unit and the labor. There is no single price, so none is shown here.

Questions
